Thalassophobia is the intense fear of huge bodies of deep water. Such as oceans. People with this phobia may experience anxiety or panic when thinking about or being near deep water. Symptoms can include rapid heartbeat, sweating, and a strong desire to avoid situations involving water. This fear can stem from various factors. Including past traumatic experiences. The vastness and unpredictability of the ocean, or a fear of what might be lurking beneath the surface.

    1. The seaweed rolled up by the waves, this painting is too Cthulhu… Imagine being entangled by it while surfing, and being pulled by the tide…

    2. Under the influence of the undercurrent of the ocean, weak humans are like fallen leaves in the wind, being dragged into the unknown abyss involuntarily. Every futile struggle seems so insignificant and unable to resist the powerful force from the depths of the ocean.

    3. Of course, sometimes you think your feet are touching seaweed, but in fact it may be some “cute and adorable” creatures… These are garden eels . They are very timid, but I am even more timid…

    4. The huge waves in Nazare, Portugal, taken with a telephoto lens , look like a mountain at first glance… It looks very much like Miller’s Planet in Interstellar : That’s not a mountain, it’s a huge wave!

    5. On Grand Turk Island in the Caribbean , large cruise ships are very close to the coast. Why? Because 200 meters offshore, there is a “cliff” more than 2,000 meters deep…

    6. An underwater cliff with a bottomless dark abyss that makes people feel terrified, as if it is the entrance to endless darkness. Here you can “enjoy” the double torture of fear of heights and fear of the sea…

    7. Before my eyes was a bottomless dark abyss, with endless emptiness swallowing up all light. The pressure of the sea water squeezed my body heavily, and every breath seemed particularly difficult.

    8. One second ago: Nature is so amazing, and marine life is so cute! The next second: Oh my god…

    9. In 2006, a group of scientists were inspecting a natural gas pipeline at a depth of 1,000 meters when suddenly… a giant creature emerged from the darkness! It was a sperm whale, one of the most powerful mammals in diving, reaching a maximum depth of 3,600 meters, and is attract to light sources…

    10. Greenland’s “whale cemetery”: under the ice, ocean, darkness, giant beasts, death… well, plenty of nightmare fuel!

    11. A diver was suddenly attack by a swordfish at a depth of 220 meters in the dark sea. Fortunately, the swordfish’s beak only pierced his equipment…

    12. In fact, in a sense, many islands are mountains, but most of them are submerge by sea water… Puerto Rico ‘s 3D terrain has a drop of more than 9,000 meters from the bottom of the sea to the top of the land!

    13. The logs floating vertically in the sea water may look like a magic needle at first glance… But in fact, this kind of thing is very scary, especially in stormy weather, they will twitch up and down with the waves, which is the most feared thing for the crew…

    GIF cover

Just look at their size to know how terrifying they are. After being soak in water, they can weigh several tons. With the ups and downs of wind and waves, they will destroy anything without any warning…

    14. Be careful when you are at the beach. Some places look like beaches, but they are extremely deadly… This is Okuma Beach in Okinawa , Japan. The floating “sand” is porous pumice produce by underwater volcanic eruptions.

    15. The ocean is definitely a dangerous place. A fisherman was fishing quietly, and suddenly a huge monster exploded from the water, which made people feel scared and excited…

    16. Most of the ocean exists in complete darkness. It only takes 1 second for you to see its big mouth from seeing nothing…

    17. Even in offshore areas, there may be some huge creatures hidden beneath the seemingly calm sea surface… The whale shark is the largest fish on earth. Although it has a “super big mouth”, its throat is relatively narrow, probably only as big as a human fist.

    GIF cover

    18. Encountering a whale shark is at most a false alarm. If you encounter its relative below, you should plan for your next life…

    GIF cover

    19. In Alaska, a group of humpback whales are hunting, standing in front of a small boat like a small mountain. This picture looks very much like the Norwegian sea monster in Pirates of the Caribbean …

    20. Vampire squid, also known as ghost octopus , not only looks extremely scary and weird, but also has a pair of big eyes and luminous organs. Just like its name, it is like a demon creature from hell…

    GIF cover

    21. The marine iguanas in the Galapagos Islands are the only marine lizards in the world that can breathe underwater for half an hour. At first glance, this picture looks like a newly born Godzilla baby. Fortunately, the Americans are not testing nuclear weapons there…

    GIF cover

    22. Sperm whales sleep while “standing”… This is because their lungs are located in the front of their bodies, which provides greater buoyancy. They are also a social animal, so they are also call ” Stonehenge in the Sea “.

    23. At the Queen’s Baths on Kauai Island in Hawaii, the big waves brought by the north wind are like the roaring sea… In December, this place is also know as the Death Pool. Although there are fences, several tourists who don’t know the depth still drown every year…

    GIF cover

    24. The scene that penguins are most afraid of: leopard seals under the ice … Not to mention penguins, even the terrifying upright apes would collapse to the ground if they saw this scene…

    25. The huge cruise ship also looks very fragile in the face of the raging sea storm… Just looking at the picture, I almost vomited through the screen…

    GIF cover

    26. Point Nemo : The most remote place on Earth. The nearest land is 2,668 kilometers away. If you come here, the person closest to you is not far away, but the astronaut passing over your head… Because of its remote location, the area use as the crash site of spacecraft wreckage is also call the “spacecraft cemetery.”

    27. Long-armed squid , no adult has ever been catch, a deep-sea creature that humans currently know very little about… Its tentacles can be up to 8 meters long, floating on the dark seabed, like a void creature in the desolate outer space …

    GIF cover

    28. The octopus slowed down, as if it found something wrong around it. It had a bad feeling and started camouflaging, trying to imitate the seaweed next to it, but it ended up delivering it to its mouth…

    GIF cover

The sea, a fascinating yet terrifying existence…
