Amniotic fluid

Amniotic fluid normal amount of at 30 weeks

This morning, a pregnant woman asked me about the amount of amniotic fluid, so I looked up some information and gave her an answer. Today, I wrote an article to explain in detail the following two aspects: “What is the standard amount in each period of pregnancy, and how much it increases each week” and “What is the normal amount of amniotic fluid when you are about to give birth (with photos of pregnant women with excessive amniotic fluid attached)”.

Amniotic fluid is weakly alkaline and consists of 99% water, electrolytes, amino acids, lipids, sugars, etc.

The amount get changes with the growth and development of the fetus, increasing at a rate of about 10 ml per week.

Generally, the amount begins to increase slowly from the 8th week of pregnancy. Around 5 months, the fetus and the egg membrane begin to grow larger, and the amount of amniotic fluid increases relatively faster. It will decrease when the baby is about to be born at the 40th week of pregnancy.

Amount

Let me list in detail the standards for the amount of amniotic fluid in each period:

10 weeks of pregnancy: about 25ml

20 weeks of pregnancy: about 350ml

30-35 weeks of pregnancy: about 800-1000ml

40 weeks of pregnancy: about 500ml

When the baby is about to be born, it is normal for the amount to be between 200-500ml.

In addition, if the amount is less than 100ml, it is considered oligohydramnios; if it is more than 1000ml.

Main component

The main component of amniotic fluid in early pregnancy is the blood of the pregnant woman. It looks no different from water and is clear and transparent.

When the fetal secretions are mix in, it may also turn into light yellow, but odorless.

After the second trimester of pregnancy, the urine may turn milky white because the fetus urinates and swallows amniotic fluid.

The amount is usually detect by B-ultrasound, and the doctor will write it on the ultrasound report. If it is abnormal, the doctor will tell the pregnant mother what to pay attention to. If the doctor does not say anything, it means it is normal and the pregnant mother does not need to worry.
