The human brain is like the engine of a car, it is very important. Suddenly one day, your car breaks down, and it is on a very wide road, in a place where there is no one in front and no shop behind. This car is also a newly bought car, and it is a very expensive sports car. It just can’t be driven.

Scientific research shows that after the age of 30, the cerebral cortex and hippocampus will shrink at a rate of 0.5% per year, which means that the brain’s memory will become worse and worse. If you are overweight, under a lot of stress, do not like to exercise, and have poor sleep, the shrinkage of the brain will be even more severe.

The brain is such an important organ that we use it every day and every moment. But we still don’t know how to protect it scientifically? By the time we discover problems, it is often too late.

Let’s protect the brain scientifically from the following three aspects: avoid harm and stop behaviors that cause harm to the brain; nourish the brain properly and use scientific methods to replenish the nutrients needed by the brain; activate the brain and tap its potential as much as possible.

    Avoid harm

The injuries that modern people may encounter are roughly divided into these categories: physical injuries, chemical pollution, chronic diseases and addictive substances.

    Physical injury

You may say, who would hit their brain for no reason? But some things are beyond human control. The brain is like tofu. Once it encounters a collision, some damage is irreversible and the consequences are unimaginable. For traffic accidents, data shows that wearing seat belts in a car reduces the probability of serious injury by 50% and the probability of death by 45%.

This also includes fast and convenient electric vehicles. We must also wear helmets to provide additional protection for our brains. Never take chances.

The other type is some sports. Football is very easy to hurt the brain. Players are fighting for the ball and two people collide with each other unconsciously. Some time ago, at the Hangzhou Asian Games, I saw a scene where several people fought for the ball and collided with each other. Several people knelt on the ground with their heads in their hands.

    Chemical pollution

For example, heavy metals such as mercury and lead can cause serious damage to the brain’s nervous system, many of which are irreversible. It is possible that children will suffer from dementia.

Some time ago, Japan discharged nuclear waste water into the sea, causing the death of many marine fish and shrimps, and even the possibility of extinction.

If you live near chemical plants, printing plants, steel mills, etc., be careful and avoid contact. If you are really worried, go to the relevant department to test the heavy metal content.

    Chronic diseases

The brain has many blood vessels, and many blood vessel injuries will affect the safety of the brain. People with “three highs” are more likely to have a stroke. Therefore, we should eat less salt, less oil, and less sugar, exercise more, have a regular work and rest schedule, and scientifically control and prevent it in advance.

    Addictive substances

Such as nicotine, coffee, and electronic products. Use them only in a reasonable way and avoid addiction. Once you become addicted, you will have to increase the dosage next time to make your brain feel comfortable. If this continues, you will be unable to extricate yourself.

    Reasonable nourishment

The brain has its own special feature. Even when we sleep, it continues to work without resting and consumes a lot of energy.

It needs to be supplied with fiber-rich foods with a low glycemic index, such as green vegetables, beans, and whole grains, to continuously supply energy; another type is the brain’s continuous generation of new neural connections, which requires essential fatty acids that can only be obtained from external foods, such as deep-sea fish, nuts, seaweed and olive oil.

In addition, eating 50% fresh vegetables and beans, 30% chicken, fish, and eggs, and 20% fruits and nuts every day can nourish the brain well.

    Activate the brain

Long-term exercise can not only get more oxygen and blood, which is the most direct nourishment for the brain, but also effectively stimulate the brain to think and work continuously, enhance the efficiency of the brain, and thus increase our creativity.

Learn a language or technology that you are not good at, which is quite different from your usual self. It helps the brain to establish more and stronger connections, improve brain power reserves, and enhance brain plasticity.
