Gastrointestinal dysfunction, also known as gastrointestinal neurosis , refers to gastrointestinal dysfunction caused by emotional, stressful, and other psychological factors, even though organic gastrointestinal lesions have been ruled out. What are the specific manifestations of gastrointestinal dysfunction? How can it be avoided? Let’s take a look!

What are the symptoms of gastrointestinal dysfunction?

If you have the following symptoms repeatedly, the disease lasts for more than 3 months, and relevant examinations have ruled out organic diseases, you are likely to have gastrointestinal dysfunction.
    (1) Throat discomfort
    (2) Difficulty swallowing
    (3) Acid reflux
    (4) Heartburn
    (5) Abdominal pain
    (6) Abdominal distension
    (7) Nausea and vomiting
    (8) Diarrhea

How to determine whether it is gastrointestinal dysfunction?

Most gastroenterologists believe that we should diagnose gastrointestinal dysfunction based on the Rome criteria and combine relevant auxiliary examinations to avoid missing organic diseases. Currently, clinicians generally make a comprehensive diagnosis of gastrointestinal dysfunction based on the following seven clinical characteristics.

    gastrointestinal disorders
    gastrointestinal disorders

    (1) Main symptoms: recurrence of one or more of the above symptoms of gastrointestinal dysfunction.
    (2) Associated symptoms: usually accompanied by palpitations, shortness of breath, headache, back pain, tension, sensitivity, anxiety, depression, insomnia, etc.
    (3) Course of disease: most cases have a long course of disease, more than 3-6 months or even up to several years.
    (4) Medical history: no history of chronic diseases, no history of long-term medication, no history of abdominal surgery.
    (5) Physical examination: no signs of anemia, weight loss, jaundice, cervical lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly, abdominal mass, ascites, etc.
    (6) Examination: no abnormalities found in routine or repeated examinations. Such as gastroscopy , colonoscopy , abdominal B-ultrasound , CT scan and MRI, and blood tests.
    (7) Treatment: most cases use various symptomatic medications to treat symptoms. But the symptoms do not improve, or they are prone to relapse after improvement

How to prevent and treat gastrointestinal dysfunction?

    1. Keep warm.
Gastrointestinal dysfunction is often cause by the stimulation of the gastrointestinal tract after being exposed to cold. Which causes abnormalities in the nervous system and leads to various functional disorders. Therefore, when the weather gets cold, you should pay attention to keeping warm, which can help gastrointestinal motility.

    2. Adjust your diet.
Try to eat less foods that cause gastrointestinal bloating and increased flatulence, such as milk and beans. Reduce your intake of starchy foods like wheat, potatoes, and corn. Only a small portion of these foods is absorbed by the body, and the majority is metabolized and broken down by bacteria in the large intestine, which increases gas production. Adding seasonings like ginger, garlic, and pepper to stir-fries can help reduce flatulence.

    3. Maintain a balanced
balance between work and rest. This is crucial, as emotional tension can directly accelerate gastrointestinal motility and lead to diarrhea.

    4. Exercise regularly
by massaging your abdomen every morning and evening on an empty stomach. With your left hand on top, rotate clockwise from right to left. With your right hand on the bottom, massage counterclockwise from left to right, centering around your belly button, 50 times each time. This type of massage can improve gastrointestinal motility and blood circulation.
